Just like every alternate year, WhatsApp may suspend its services on some smartphones that can't use the app now these days (December 31).
According to a report printed by Freelance, the electronic messaging app continues to roll out new updates. However, since some smartphones running on previous operating systems may stop supporting the app, they will become incompatible with the app when the latest update comes out after New Year's Eve.
The company may suspend its services for smartphones that have outdated operating systems. However, users of these smartphones may get a warning message before the app stops working on their phones.
"As devices and software packages change, we tend to frequently check what operating systems we tend to support and make updates," according to a press release issued by WhatsApp.
"Additionally, these devices won't have the latest security updates or might lack the practicality needed to run WhatsApp. To decide what to prevent from support, we tend, like alternative technology corporations, to review these devices every year." and software packages are the oldest and have the least number of individuals still using them."
